A few facts about Warsaw

Warsaw, the capital of Poland, is the country's most populous city and the second largest in terms of area. It is located in the central part of Poland, in the region of Mazovia, on the Vistula River.

Warsaw was granted city rights before 1300. In 1526, it became part of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland. In 1569, it was designated as the location for the meetings of the Sejm of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. From 1596 onwards, the royal court and central offices were relocated to Warsaw, and in 1611, the King established permanent residence in the expanded Royal Castle.

It's the only Polish city with a political system defined by a separate act and is made up of 18 districts. Warsaw serves as a significant scientific, cultural, political, and economic center. It is home to the President of the Republic of Poland, the Sejm and Senate, the Council of Ministers, and the National Bank of Poland. Additionally, Warsaw is the headquarters of the Frontex agency, responsible for the security of the European Union's external borders, as well as the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), an agency of the OSCE.
